We had the best time celebrating Claire's birthday! Memphis has a GREAT new park that all the cousins love... it was the perfect place for a party and the weather was amazing!

She likes to stand by herself and cruise around furniture, but no steps yet by herself...

By far my pickiest child, in terms of food. She took a couple finger licks of the cupcake, but she was not really interested.

Labor Day at the beach

Some sweet friends of ours offered their beach condo to us for Labor Day. We were so excited! We had sunscreen, swim diapers, floats, beach toys... My sis, Kelly, went with us for a tan and to help with the girls. We were all ready for sun and fun!
Unfortunately, hurricane lee was rolling through the whole 3 days we were there. BOO! Joel and the big girls got in the pool once... in the rain.
We did a lot of tv/movie watching, fort building, games- twister and cards, and we even went to an antique mall one day.
The highlight of the weekend was going to the outlets. I LOVE the outlets!
I really wanted some cute beach pics.. this isn't really what I had in mind. The wind was so strong that even on the boardwalk out to the beach the sand was hitting our legs and stinging. We weren't outside for long!

Teeth

Claire is standing on her own these days, but no steps yet. She's got 4 teeth coming in on the top and 2 coming in on the bottom. Her first tooth started coming through about 9 months. Surprisingly, 6 teeth coming in hasn't affected her happy personality. Sweet girl!

We celebrated Addie Lane's birthday at the river house in Heber Springs again with my family. We played on the lake all day and then partied that night.

Claire is almost one and I can't wait to go to the doctor for her well check-up to see if my once small (4th percentile weight) girl has climbed the charts at all. She is always happy, but I think eating might be her favorite activity. :)

On any given night you can find Lucy asleep on the stairs. Her strong will wants to push the limits on most everything, so we told her that as long as she was upstairs she could sleep anywhere... I guess she took that literally.

Notice that both legs are through one leg-hole of her shorts. She put them on herself.. I tried to fix them and she said she wanted them that way. Ha!

I guess her bear likes the stairs too.

Addie Lane will start ballet this fall... She has been putting on leotards and "dancing" for over a year. These days she likes for me to introduce her before she does her show. Lucy is in on the fun too. If Addie Lane has on a leotard, then Lucy is sure to put hers on too. Here they are on their "stage."

One of the great things about being on Young Life staff is the opportunity for our family to live at a Young Life camp for a month each summer. Joel has a job (this year he was Work Crew Coordinator) and the girls and I get to play with all the other staff families. This year we were at Sharptop, in north georgia. We were there with a bunch of old friends from columbus... where I lived before we got married. And some of our memphis friends too.. the Torres and drew and ellie holcomb. What a fun month and it was a needed break from the packing, moving and renovating that we were immmersed in before camp. Literally, we sold our house and the closing was the day before we left for camp. So while Joel was super busy demo'ing and redoing our new house I had to have everything packed in the old house and it had to be in the new house before we left for camp. It was quite the job, especially with 3 girls! Needless to say, it was a long 2 months leading up to camp and we were so thankful to finally be there.

We sold our house (**Praise the Lord!!**) and close the day we go on our Young Life Summer Assignment to Sharptop Cove for a month. When we come back at the end of June we are hoping that our new house.........

is ready to move into. If you know Joel, you know that he loves a project and this has been a BIG one! We've gutted the kitchen and master bath and are slowly but steadily putting them back together. I'll try to post some before and after pictures once it is done.

sorry for the lack of posts... we weren't looking for a house, but happened upon one that is definitely a fixer-upper, but has great potential. So, we put in a really low offer and they accepted it. The last couple weeks have been spent quickly getting our house ready to put on the market and talking about what we are going to tackle first on the new house. Exciting, but exhausting!
Here's a couple pics of the girls. Addie Lane loves being a big sister. She's always willing to help and loves making Claire laugh. Lucy is really chatty these days. I hear, "do it myself" a thousand times a day. She's still pretty wild, but so cute and funny. Claire is so sweet and giggly. She likes to suck on her toes and grabs at anything within reach. 3 beautiful girls!

What a fun Birthday!!!
The girls helped me make some heart shaped cookies with pink icing and sprinkles for Lucy's party at school. When we got home I let Addie Lane eat her cookie and Lucy got a second cookie.

Miller came over to celebrate with us... she ate all the sprinkles off her cookie.

We talked to Nana, Pawpaw and Aunt Jo over skype.

Before we left the house for her Chick fil A party with the cousins. Simple and fun and Lucy loved it!

Road trip

We went on a long road trip in December. First we went to Nana and Pawpaw's house to drop off Addie Lane and Lucy. They stayed with Joel's parents for several days while Joel and I went to Young Life staff conference at Windy Gap in NC. Then we went back to his parents house for a couple days. Then the whole family went to Sharptop in north GA for the Farm Christmas party for the weekend. 6 couples, 12 kids under 5... pure chaos, but LOTS of fun! After that we went back to Joel's parents to celebrate Christmas(post to come).

Lucy spends a lot of time in the time out chair... apparently she was quite sleepy just after lunch yesterday. I was wondering why she was so quiet!

Claire is by far my best baby... she might be the best baby ever... I think I'd have 19 like the Duggars if newborns were all like sweet Claire. She sleeps through the night (and has since 7 weeks) and she sleeps a lot during the day too. She loves to coo.... Addie Lane likes to guess what Claire is saying. Ha! And any time she gets some attention she smiles the most precious smile. What a happy baby!

Sweet Claire is a dream baby so far. She is a champion sleeper. (I'm pretty sure she got that trait from me!) She's still teeny, but she's back to birth weight plus 9 oz and she's grown an inch! Addie Lane and Lucy are great big sisters... they LOVE showering Claire with kisses and hugs.

Claire was born on September 15th (Laurie's Birthday!) at 12:45pm. She weighed 6lbs 5oz and was 19inches long.

I was induced and progressing really slowly... at 11:30 I was only 5cm dialated and I thought I'd be waiting all day. I sent Joel and his sister, Joanna, to go eat some lunch. I called the nurse in at 12:30 and told her that I thought my epidural was wearing off because I was feeling some pressure. She checked me and I was 10cm and ready to push. Joel wasn't back yet, so I called him and told him to hurry back. My doctor arrived before Joel... his comment was, "Joel's was there for the other girls' births. Two out of three isn't bad!" Luckily Joel walked in about that time. I pushed at the next contraction and out came Claire!

Addie Lane and Lucy come to visit their new sister. Both are VERY lovey and sweet with Claire.

While Addie hugs and kisses Claire, Lucy runs around the hospital room with this bucket on her head. Funny Girl!

No More Beauty Mark

At Lucy's first birthday, she had a tiny freckle on her right cheek. If you zoom way in to this picture you can see it.
It was definitely growing and lots of times over the course of the next several months people, including us at first tried to wipe it off her face thinking that it was dirt or food. As it grew, more and more people commented that they didn't remember her having it last time they saw her.... it was noticeably getting bigger. We showed the pediatrician several times over the course of the next 6 months and finally at her 18 month appointment he thought it was best that we go to a dermatologist to get it checked. The dermatologist said that since it had grown so rapidly and because it was so dark he thought it best to get it taken off. He sent us to a great plastic surgeon that agreed it should come off. SAD! We loved Lucy's beauty mark.

Waiting for anesthesia.. she had to be put to sleep.

It was a quick surgery and the doctors said that she did great. She woke up pretty angry and scared, but within 15 or 20 minutes was back to her happy self. I gave her some Tylenol when we got home, but other than that she has had no other pain meds. The plastic surgeon stitched the inside skin but only used Dermabond (a sort of super glue for skin) to seal the outer skin. The purple hue is from the Dermabond and should go away within the next 10 days. Lucy has been such a trooper and as happy and active as ever.

The pathology report came back and all is clear. Praise the Lord!! None of the doctors thought that it was cancerous, but it's great to know for sure.

Big Girl Bed

In preparation for Baby #3, we decided to go ahead and put Lucy in her big girl bed. So, we took down the bunkbeds and did a little rearranging and both girls are smitten with sharing a room. Lucy loves her newfound freedom... a little too much. We put them in bed and here's what we found the first night after 45 minutes of extra playtime... Lucy and Elmo sleeping on the carpet in between the beds.

We put her in bed and she slept great and found her like this the next morning.

Night #2

After extra playtime Lucy decides to sleep at the foot of Addie's bed.

We put her in bed and we didn't hear a peep out of her all night, so I don't know when this happened....

but the next morning Addie Lane came into our room and said that Lucy's feet are peeking out from under her bed. Poor Lucy, slept on the hardwood floor for part of the night.

Sweet sisters... they do love being together!

Lucy has done great at night, but naptimes are still a struggle. I can't believe that we put Addie Lane in her bed at 16 months and she just obeyed and stayed in the bed. Two cute girls, two VERY different personalities!

My little Lucy monster is 18 months old! She is always on the go, climbing, eating and getting into trouble. Lulu is such a happy girl and loves to be near her big sister. Joel, Addie and I all have similar laid back personalities, but Lucy is going to be the life of the party.

Trail West is a Young Life family camp just outside of Buena Vista, Colorado. We had the BEST time swimming, hiking, pony riding, rodeoing, square dancing, jeep touring, and enjoying some quality family time. Lots of laughing, lots of fun and no cooking for a week... what a vacation!
We drove out with some friends, the Oziers, who have 4 little ones. The kiddos did great and we had some fun stops along the way.

Lucy loved petting the goat, bunnies, pigs, etc. Addie Lane loved seeing them up close, but was much more hesitant.
She loved riding Mac the pony. This is her 2nd ride. As much as Lucy loves animals, I thought she'd get so excited to ride a pony... but the second I put her on there she screamed. Then I tried putting her on there with Addie... again, lots of screaming. Maybe next time..
Hiking

All the Kids Klub wranglers doted on Addie Lane all week. She hiked up the mountain with (actually, mostly being carried by or on the shoulders of) several of her special friends.

I'm not sure that the height measurement is correct. I know that she's on the shorter side, but the 8th percentile? she was squirming like crazy, so I think I'm going to try to measure her again, just to see. Also, she has grown a mole (or should I say beauty mark?) on her cheek in the last 2 months.
Joel's sister, Joanna, came to visit last weekend. This was the only time I pulled my camera out... sad!! We had lots of fun with Aunt Jo. Every time Addie Lane gets in her jeep outside she tells me she's going to visit Nana, Pawpaw and Aunt Jo in Georgia.

Here's what happens when you have a 4 year old, a 2 1/2, a 1 1/2, and two one year olds hunting eggs...

Little Lucy is 14 months old with only one tooth. I keep thinking that the two top front teeth are on their way, but we haven't spotted them yet. This is her new look when she's concentrating... maybe she's feeling some teeth, or maybe she just likes to be like her Daddy.

Kevin and Laura moved here in the Fall to work for YL. We all love them, but Addie Lane has a special bond. She wanted to go home with them.... when I said she had to come to our house she asked if Laura and Kevin could come sleep in Mama and Daddy's bed.

It's seventy degrees and beautiful outside and we LOVE going to the park!

Joel was gone to Texas for the day to get a special treat, so Addie Lane, Lucy and I decided that we should get a treat too! Doughnuts! Addie Lane picked out a chocolate frosted doughnut with heart sprinkles and Lucy got some munchkins. After Addie's first bite she said, "MMM, TASTY!" Just like her Mama, she loves doughnuts!

You'd never know it by all she eats, but Lucy finally got her first tooth last week!!

Despite the ice storm and flight cancellation causing Joel and me to get back home 3 hours before party time, we were still able to celebrate Lucy's birthday with family.

My little Lucy turned 1 yesterday!! She's such a happy girl and never runs out of energy. I'm pretty sure she's going to be my wild child. She must have known that yesterday was a big day... she took her first steps! Only 3 at a time, but I think she'll be walking everywhere soon.

Until a couple weeks ago, Lucy was NOT a fan of the bathtub.... lip quivering, crocodile tears crying while trying to stand up every 2 seconds. I don't know what changed, but she LOVES taking a bath now. She splashes, bounces and giggles. Bathtimes are much more frequent for Lulu now:)

What fun we've had lately! Addie Lane is talking up a storm and has recently begun asking, "Why?" 100 times a day. Lucy can walk with a walker and laughs, but much prefers crawling. She still doesn't have any teeth, but will eat anything and everything you put in front of her. We spent Thanksgiving with Joel's family in Ellisville, Mississippi. Great food, fun with family, and and lots of Nana, Pawpaw and Aunt Jo time. The day before Thanksgiving we celebrated with my family. Here are Ryan, Addie Lane and Jack climbing on a tree my Dad cut down in the back yard.

I really need to watch the girls more closely... even if I only hear laughter.
Addie Lane was so proud of herself and couldn't understand why the stroller wasn't a perfect fit for Lucy. But before I took Lucy out of the baby doll stroller, I had to get a picture.

Lucy loves to make messes. She is all over the place now... her favorite place is the bathroom. Playing in the toilet water and eating toilet paper are her favorite pastimes. GROSS!

What a smiley baby!
That is the comment that I get everywhere I go. Lucy has always been such a sweet and smiley baby. She loves her big sister and wants to be around her all the time. Addie Lane is really sweet and will share most things with Lucy, but her books (especially her Curious George book) are off limits. Addie will try to distract her with other toys, but Lucy just wants whatever Addie Lane has.... so cute!
Not only is Lucy crawling all over the place, but she's pulling up and has even started cruising too. She's often saying ma ma ma and ba ba ba. And she loves to clap when we clap.

The Memphis Botanic Garden just opened the coolest children's garden ever! We took a picnic lunch and played. It was hard to tear Addie Lane away from all the fun, but I assured her that we'd go back soon.

Lucy has been scooting around for several weeks now, not a full crawl on all fours yet, but can get anywhere she wants to go. She loves trying to pull up and can squirm her way out of the bumbo.

This is the first step in getting out... she turns around and then leans over the edge just enough to get her legs out and then uses them to push . She usually lands on her face, but that doesn't stop her.

Lounging at the Lake

Once a year some of my college buds get together for a weekend. We eat, ski, tube, talk, lounge, and play at the pool... always a great weekend to relax, reconnect with friends and enjoy the lake. Last year Addie Lane was the only kiddo. This year she was joined by Anna Wells, Lucy and Annie. What precious girls!!

We celebrated Addie Lane's 2nd birthday with a yummy cake. She was accessorized well for the party.

Andy and Lucy are best friends.. I fed her and changed her diapers, but the rest of the weekend she was hanging out with Andy.

The 2 year olds must play hard at church. Addie Lane usually comes home extra tired and ready for naptime.
And after Lucy eats she's ready for her nap too. What a pretty girl!

And when both girls are sleeping soundly, guess what Mama and Daddy are doing? Usually taking a nap as well. Aaaahhhh, so nice :)

Gena's house

Gena is my grandmother and Addie, Lucy and Miller's great-grandmother. She's 88, but you'd never know it by how active she is. Before we came over, she had already walked a mile and been out running errands.
We had lunch and then played over at her house for a while. Addie Lane loves to play Gena's keyboard and sit in her lap. Lucy and Miller had some tummy time together.
How grateful I am for my sweet grandmother and the BIG family that she's raised to know and love the Lord.
